The Seal of Excellence
In its attempt to address the issue over a product's quality, Taiwan, through its Bureau of Foreign Trade of Taiwan (BOFT) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), has organized and implemented a campaign that aims to help consumers identify the products that has guaranteed high-quality.
What is “Taiwan Excellence”?
Taiwan Excellence is basically a campaign that aims to promote high-quality Taiwanese brands bearing their industry standards for quality and value.
While all Taiwan-based brands from several product categories are eligible to be part of the campaign, only products that have evenly scored on four categories (“R&D,” “Design,” “Quality,” and “Marketing”) by an international panel of judges will be allowed to carry the “Taiwan Excellence Seal”. This is to ensure that the product that shall carry the seal does not just proudly represent the innovative culture of Taiwan, but help consumers make educated decisions as well.
So common sense would suggest that a product that carries the “Taiwan Excellence Mark” is a high quality product worth the price that you'll pay to get the value that you deserve.
How it Started
The Taiwan Excellence campaign started as part of the Ministry of Economic Affair’s (MOEA) 5 year plan in the 1980’s to raise Taiwan’s international competitiveness by supporting its local brands. Under the Image Enhancement Plan, the Taiwan Excellence Award campaign was established in 1992.
The Highest Award
Among the qualified products (allowed to carry the seal), the judges will then select thirty from the winners, where 10 would be given the highest recognition under the campaign, the Gold Award, while the remaining 20 will be given the Silver Award.
Now in the Philippines!
The good news is, just this year, the Taiwan Excellence campaign was introduced to the Philippines for the first time to educate Filipino consumers who buy “Made in Taiwan” products make smart choices to go for the best brands!
